NBHWC Program Approval is a rigorous process that determines health and wellness training and coaching programs that meet established requirements. Standards published by NBHWC to train capable and competent health and wellness coaches. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the Health and Wellness Coaching Certification Exam to become a National Council Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).

Ginger Training Institute, Health in free spaceDesigned to train the next generation of behavioral health trainers and clinicians in a fully virtual environment, the training program provides interdisciplinary learning, support and mentorship based on inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity and access. The new NBHWC approval is based on Ginger’s industry-leading standards for its behavioral health coaches, which include a master’s-level education in a psychology-related field, over two years of relevant experience, and 200 hours of supervised training on the Ginger platform.

The newly approved program offers Ginger Coaches an additional comprehensive ten-month group training program led by a team of Ginger psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and NBC-HWC trainers. The program focuses on behavioral health with a focus on culturally sensitive, identity affirming care and is designed to help Ginger trainers become aware of their own and their clients’ intersecting identities, as well as their environmental and social realities.

Behavioral health coaching uses an active, focused approach to address a wide range of subacute mental health issues, ranging from sleep problems to communication difficulties. Ginger trainers are trained to identify the need for higher level care and help refer participants to therapeutic or mental health services as needed. They also support people throughout their journey of care. Ginger’s team approach has been proven to reduce anxiety symptoms, as published in Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR).

In addition to its behavioral health training program, the Ginger Training Institute provides clinical training for therapists through a postdoctoral fellowship program designed for students who have completed both an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and an APA-accredited internship. This program provides an immersive experience that not only allows trainees to hone their skills in teletherapy, but also provides the opportunity to develop skills in Ginger’s interdisciplinary, team-based model. The Ginger Postdoctoral Fellowship currently offers four specialized streams including Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging; product; research and evidence; clinical supervision and program development.
